Share your skills and expertise to support school improvement

What is the Global Teachers Programme? The Global Teachers Programme offers a challenging, rewarding and motivating professional and personal development experience for teachers and headteachers in Scotland. As a Global Teacher you spend four weeks in Malawi exchanging skills and expertise to support schools involved in Link Community Development’s Malawi Inclusive Education Project. On their return to Scotland Global Teachers work to share the knowledge and skills gained in Malawi with pupils and other teachers, developing an interest in global citizenship, and rights and responsibilities.
Link Community Development has been running the Global Teachers Programme for nine years with the first Global Teacher placements in Malawi being supported by the Scottish Government in 2006. The programme is now being run as a partnership between Link Community Development and Learning and Teaching Scotland, funded as part of the Scottish Continuing International Professional Development Programme.
Your pupils and your whole school will benefit from your experience:
Bring global teaching and learning to life with your experiences of rural Malawian life, the people, the children, and school.
Influence pupils’ knowledge and understanding, values and attitudes across the curriculum.

Build on your school’s global citizenship teaching and learning by sharing your experience, supporting the Curriculum for Excellence.
Bring new practice from around the country into your own school by sharing new and exciting ideas, resources and practice with other Global Teachers.
Gain skills in leadership and management by supporting headteachers and teachers in Malawi.
With an insight into school improvement issues and challenges, you can offer a different perspective to your own school.
Experience planning and delivering in-service training with a small team of other Scottish teachers.
Become part of a network of Scottish teachers working in international education, and be considered as an expert to other schools and teachers in your local authority.
Gain the experience necessary to apply for the award of Professional Recongition from the General Teaching Council Scotland.
“It is one, if not the best form of professional development I have ever taken part in. It has increased my ability to influence children and adults at school and in the community over global issues – I am now seen as an expert and sought after to answer questions". Global Teacher, 2008.
