Apply now for the Global Teachers Programme 2012.
The Global Teachers Programme is a challenging and rewarding experience for Scottish teachers and school managers to develop their skills and improve school performance in Scotland and Africa.
Building on the success of the Global Teachers Programme 2006-2009, Link Scotland re-launched the Programme in 2012 with funding from the Wood Family Trust. This year we will select and train 15 teachers from South Lanarkshire and Aberdeenshire to live and work in Ugandan schools for 5 weeks over the Scottish summer holi
days.
With support from
Link Uganda, participating teachers will assist teachers at their Ugandan ‘host’ school in employing better teaching and learning methodologies, expanding leadership skills and implementing enhanced school improvement plans.
“As a result of the GTP there has been a great change in the school, mainly in teaching and learning methods used on class and group work. I have seen in my staff that each teacher now asks each other if they are stuck and then approaches another to assist them. There is better cooperation in the staff. Teachers are trying to implement what was learned from the GT.” (Headteacher, Malawi, 2008)
Upon their return from Uganda, the Scottish teachers will use their experiences to bring Global Citizenship into their classrooms, share learning with peers, and spread Global Citizenship values through whole schools, communities and regions. Teachers will be supported to embed global learning in their schools by joining our
Link Schools Programme and forming a meaningful educational partnership with their Ugandan host school. Involvement in these programmes supports Scottish pupils towards a greater understanding of their roles as global citizens as well as helping to achieve many of the
experiences and outcomes of Curriculum for Excellence.
“It is one, if not the best, form of professional development I have ever taken part in. It has increased my ability to influence children and adults at school and in the community over global issues – I am now seen as an expert and sought after to answer questions". Global Teacher, 2008.
In 2013, teachers from two additional Education Authorities will be invited to apply to the Global Teachers Programme to volunteer in either Uganda or Ghana. Following a review of the two year pilot we will seek to extend the Global Teachers Programme for 4 years and involve teachers from 8 Education Authorities across Scotland.
An information session for teachers who are interested in applying for the Global Teachers Programme 2012 will be held in South Lanarkshire on 25th January and shortly afterwards in Aberdeenshire.
