Link Community Development Ethiopia are delighted to be the recipients of a $50,000 grant from the Boeing Foundation for the Pre-School Advice and Support Pilot (PASP).
Lack of preschool education in rural Ethiopia is a major barrier to improving learner outcomes, as the primary curriculum assumes basic literacy and numeracy. Children who enter grade 1 with no foundation knowledge are disadvantaged from the outset.
The long-term ambition of this new project is to allow 16,000 five and six-year-olds access to quality pre-school education, enhancing their readiness for primary school and positively influencing retention and learning outcomes. This pilot will operate in four woredas with high population density and high levels of absolute poverty with the goal of materialising the new National 'Early Childhood Care and Education' Policy which aims to ensure all children have a healthy start in life, are nurtured in a safe, caring and stimulating environment and can develop to their fullest potential.
PASP will be undertaken between November 2016 and June 2017.
