Our vision is a world where all children have access to high quality education. In order to realise that vision we work in partnership with other members of the LCD group to develop and deliver innovative projects that promote access to quality education in sub-Saharan Africa.
Who we are
LCD England and Wales is part of the international LCD family which comprises of nine separately registered organisations: Ethiopia, Ghana, Malawi, South Africa, Uganda, England & Wales, Ireland, Scotland and USA. LCD England and Wales was registered as a charity in 1995.
What we do
Link Community Development is a leading organisation in the delivery of school improvement programmes in Africa. Our international programmes enable wide scale improvement in the quality of education being delivered to some of the most disadvantaged children in Africa. LCD England and Wales supports the LCD group's shared vision and mission through fundraising for the School Improvement programmes in Africa and by supporting Development Education in England and Wales.
Fundraising
LCD England & Wales staff raise funds for our international programme work from a number of sources including statutory donors, trusts, individual supporters, school sponsors, linked schools and through a range of events. This year income in England and Wales reached £1.2 million.
Fundraising highlights:
Our signature event is the annual Morocco Hitch. In 2008 849 students from 14 universities raised a total ₤371,000 . This unique event is a real eye-opener and the journey can be a life-changing experience for the participants.
Income from Trusts rose to ₤395,000 in 07/08. We thank our many supporters.
Development Education LCD remains a leading organisation in the field of school partnerships. Our staff currently support over 270 partnerships between schools in England/Wales and schools in Africa, which provide an opportunity to enhance the global dimension. Our support for schools includes communication between schools, reciprocal visits of teachers and opportunities for structured fundraising.
Advocacy LCD England & Wales maintains an active voice in the international development field.
