Who we are
Link England and Wales is part of the International Link family of nine separately registered organisations: Ethiopia, Ghana, Malawi, South Africa, Uganda, England & Wales, Ireland, Scotland and USA.  Link England and Wales was registered as a charity in 1995.

What we do
Link Community Development works at all levels of the education system - with individual school communities, district education authorities and central government - to identify and remove the obstacles to quality education. We currently operate international programmes in rural districts of Ethiopia, Ghana, Malawi, South Africa, and Uganda, and there is demand for us to extend our work to other countries. To learn more about Link’s work in Africa visit our Link International pages or individual Link country pages.

Link England and Wales supports the Link group's shared vision and mission through fundraising to support our work in Africa and by building understanding for development issues through our Link Schools Programme.

Fundraising
Link England & Wales staff raise funds for our international programme work from a number of sources including statutory donors, trusts, individual supporters, school sponsors, linked schools and through a range of events. In the year ending 2009 income in England and Wales reached £1.1 million.

Our signature fundraising event is the Morocco / Prague Hitch, an annual hitch-hike organised in over 20 universities across the UK. Last year 1,190 Hitchers took part, raising an incredible £550,000 for Link.

Development Education

Link remains a leading organisation in the field of school partnerships. Our Link Schools Programme supports partnerships between schools in England/Wales and schools in Africa. By bringing a global dimension to teaching and learning, linking can enrich the curriculum. Our support for schools includes communication between schools, themed curriculum resources, reciprocal visits and opportunities for structured fundraising.

Advocacy
Link England & Wales maintains an active voice in the international development field.
