Join us on the Great African Journey!
This year schools and youth groups across Europe will be taking part in sponsored events
with the aim of travelling the equivalent of the 7,868 km journey from Tunisia to South Africa. All without even leaving the playground!
So you decide whether to skip the length of the Sahara…swim the width of the Nile or pogo the pyramids? It’s your journey so you can decide how far you go and how you get there! Every class that takes part will add the total distance they covered to our total so you can keep checking on the progress of our journey, as well as finding more out about the countries as we reach them. This event is for schools and youth groups combining sport, education and fundraising!
What is the Great African Journey?
The beauty of The Great African Journey is that you can tailor the event to suit the age of the participants. You decide on how you want to tackle your challenge — running, cycling, swimming, or even by pogo stick. For this challenge, anything goes! So will it be 10 lengths of the swimming pool, 100 bounces on the trampoline or a 5km 3-legged, fancy dress race? You decide!
Make it even more exciting by choosing a distance the same length as something famous from the journey – it could be the width of the Nile or the height of Victoria Falls. We can provide you with lots of helpful suggestions of distances and tell you more about the landmarks.
Help children in Africa get the education they deserve.
Each participant then raises sponsorship to take part, whether per skip, per lap or per mile. If your aim is to skip up the Great Pyramids in Egypt (around 146 metres), that's around 292 skips! Sponsorship of 1p per skip is £2.92 for skipping an entire pyramid.
And your school/group can choose to keep 20% of sponsorship raised for their own fundraising!
Be part of something BIG!
All distances go onto our online interactive map and all particpants get a certificate for taking part!
