Experience Africa at high velocity!

With the Olympics arriving in London this summer, what better time to hop on your bike and experience the cycling adventure of a lifetime?

Following the overwhelming success of our Malawi Bike Ride last year, we've introduced the Uganda Bike Ride for 2012, offering participants the opportunity to get up close and personal with the scenery in one of Africa's most stunning countries...

Cycle from the source of the River Nile to the stunning Murchison Falls National Park...

Our unique 450km route gives you an experience of everything which makes "The Pearl of Africa" so special in just a few days - spectacular wildlife, rolling rural scenery and the wonderfully warm local population.

The ride starts with a cycle along the banks of the River Nile at its source in Jinja. There's no better way to acclimatise to the local weather and get used to your bike than against a backdrop of the world's most famous river!

The path then sweeps right through the untapped heart of Uganda, passing through plantations of sugar cane, banana, mango and pineapple. There's a stunning overnight stay in Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, before a ride along the shore of Lake Albert as we head up towards Masindi in the north of Uganda.

We finish with a cycle through the incredible Murchison Falls National Park, with the chance to catch sight of its 700 wild chimpanzees. After crossing the Nile by river ferry alongside the wallowing hippos, the end point is the astonishing Paraa Safari Lodge, where we will enjoy a celebratory meal watching the sun set over the banks of the Nile.

There will also be two project visits towards the end of the ride, giving you the opportunity to see our work close at hand and meet Link staff and other people involved in our projects. This is always a rewarding and fitting end to your fundraising and cycling challenge.

Overall, the event lasts ten days including flights and transfers. There are six full days of cycling, with average distances of around 70km per day.

The practicalities...

At all times during the ride, you will be accompanied by Link staff, an experienced tour manager, an English-speaking medic and support vehicles at the front and back of the cycling group. The support vehicles will carry all of your luggage and provisions, and can even pick you up if you need a break from the cycling at any point.

Fundraising...

The £2,750 sponsorship target includes flights, airport transfers, bike hire, accommodation and food. For more information, please read our Frequently Asked Questions.

This target may seem like a challenge – but it is an achievable one! You will have support with your fundraising every step of the way - our experienced team is always happy to provide you with fresh ideas and motivation whenever it's needed. We help event fundraisers raise more than £500,000 each year and have recently supported a team of five London Marathon runners to raise an average of £3,000 each.

Here are some initial fundraising ideas to get the ball rolling.

“I look forward to welcoming you to Uganda. This promises to be a unique adventure through our beautiful country, and a memorable opportunity to see Link’s work close up. Your fundraising efforts are really making a big difference to our children and schools, so thank you for supporting Link.”
