Almost 150 people came along to celebrate with us and helped Link to raise over £2,000 on the night through SMS donations, a raffle and a licensed bar.
We were honoured to welcome Madam Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, the former Deputy President of South Africa, as our Guest of Honour. Madam Mlambo-Ngcuka spoke inspirationally about the power of student activism and personally
She also issued a personal challenge to our Hitch Alumni, encouraging 20 groups of former Hitchers to again show their fundraising prowess by supporting Link's work. We've called this our 20@20 scheme and are delighted to have already signed up a number of Hitch Alumni to take part, but we're on the lookout for more volunteers. Please click here to find out more.
And finally, we unveiled the new Hitch destination at the end of the night amid much excitement amongst our Hitchers. To celebrate 20 years of the Hitch, we will be running an Easter Hitch to Croatia in 2012.
Known as the "Land of 1,000 Islands", Croatia is a haven of idyllic beaches surrounded by crystal clear waters. It has a rich cultural history but is also rapidly becoming known as the modern party capital of Europe. We've already seen 30 people sign up for the Croatia Hitch 2012 and we hope you'll decide to join them! Click here to register. |
