FUNDING CONFIRMED FOR A NEW PROJECT IN UGANDA
Date: October 2009 Location: England & Wales
LCD England and Wales are delighted to have recently received support from The Baring Foundation and John Ellerman Foundation Joint International Committee for a new 3 year project supporting internally displaced communities in Katakwi, Uganda. The grant of £248,664 will help us to support communities displaced by conflict over the past 20 years to resettle by strengthening schools’ ability to provide good quality and relevant education. The project will focus on schools in the areas worst affected by conflict in Katakwi. Activities will involve training teachers on subjects including peace education, counselling skills and health education as well as working with the wider community, particularly through establishing school gardens. We expect this project to have an impact on school enrolment rates, particularly encouraging girls to go to school, completion rates, overall pass rates and on community stabilisation in areas of resettlement.
