Congratulations to the Link Climbers Team and Outdoors Ireland for ascending Carrauntoohil by night on the eve of the Summer Solstice, Sunday 20th June 2010.
The group set off from Killarney at midnight, arriving at the peak of Carrauntoohil just in the nick of time for the summer solstice sunrise at 4.46a.m.!
After admiring the spectacular views and warming up with hot chocolate provided by the guides, the group descended the mountain and returned to Killarney for a well deserved Irish breakfast.
Thank you very much to Outdoors Ireland, who partnered up with Link Community Development for the second year in a row to offer climbers the chance to fundraise for our education programmes in Africa while embarking on a fantastic night ascent of the tallest mountain in Ireland!
Special thanks to Charlie, Philip, Tadgh and Noel, the qualified mountain guides who led the team up Carrauntoohil.

Rachel McGauran of LCD Ireland says "it was a fantastic opportunity to experience a solstice sunrise with possibly the greatest guides available in the South West".
