Global Teachers Programme - A Case Study
Arlene Walsh travelled to western Uganda as a Global Teacher in July 2008 where she spent five weeks working in Kamayenje Primary School. Arlene had already learned a lot about the school before travelling, through pre-placement training weekends and research.
After becoming more familiar with the school, Arlene agreed a work plan with the principal. Over the following weeks she introduced new teaching resources, delivered curriculum workshops and worked on the development of team lessons.

Every day Arlene enjoyed converations with her new found friends, which revealed fascinating insights into the reality of life in Uganda. And every evening she returned home to a delicious home-cooked evening meal!
On her return home, Arlene used her experience to teach about Africa in her own school and community in Ireland.
"I returned home to Ireland reluctantly, but energised by the determination of my Ugandan counterparts and full of renewed enthusiasm for our work as teachers." Arlene Walsh, Global Teacher.
Arlene returned to Uganda the following year, 2009, as part of the Global Teachers Programme support team. She also joined the 2011 Global Teachers in South Africa as part of the Global Teachers Programme support team.
