The Malawi Bike Ride 2011 Itinerary:
The 370km cycle route:
- Arrival in Lilongwe, capital of Malawi, with a transfer down to Dedza district where the group will have the opportunity to visit one of LCD’s project schools.
- First stop on the cycle is the lakeside resort of Monkey Bay where the group begins their adventure; cycling along the southern shores of Lake Malawi, allowing glimpses of an almost untouched Malawi via the Liwonde National Park, Malawi’s prime spot for wildlife viewing.
- We continue south to the old colonial capital of Zomba and then the ride travels along quiet roads for 80km to the lively city of Blantyre.
- Continuing through the dramatic Mulanje Mountain Forest Reserve, riders will see some of the work with which Link Community Development Scotland has been involved in for the past few years. This will be a fitting end to an amazing trip.
Where your money will go?
The Malawi Bike Ride 2011 aims to raise funds to support Link Community Development's work to improve the quality of education in Malawi. As well as training, each rider will have to raise at least £2,850 in sponsorship, with help from family, friends and colleagues.
By taking part in the Malawi Bike Ride 2011 your support will help Link Community Development to:
- Work in partnership with Malawian schools and District Education Offices to guide school improvement by providing centre-based training and school-based support;
- Empower school communities to support school improvement;
- Ensure pupils, girls in particular, stay in school and benefit from a quality education that provides them with the skills they need to reach their full potential.
