Edinburgh Airport has provided a grant to enable schools in Clovenstone and Drumbryden, an area of Edinburgh with some of the lowest income and employment levels in Scotland, to take part in the Link Schools Programme.
Better educational opportunities, such as the Link Schools Programme are proven as a cost effective way of reducing child poverty rates. This project helps to ensure that all Scotland’s young people get a fair start in life, develop a greater understanding of global issues and Scotland's place in the world, and are prepared to become confident individuals and effective contributors following Scotland's Curriculum for Excellence.
A teacher from a Link School commented recently in the Times Educational Supplement, Scotland (2010):
“These links benefit all the children, not just in terms of their education, but of their personal and social development too.”
Clovenstone and Drumbryden is within a 5 mile radius of Edinburgh Airport, ensuring that young people directly affected by the airport’s operations can share in its success.
Schools from Clovenstone and Drumbryden will be selected to take part in the Link Schools Programme at the start of the new term in August. If your school would like to be considered for the grant, please contact louise@lcd.org.uk for more information.
The Link Schools Programme is open to all schools in the UK and Ireland. Visit our special Link Schools website or contact Louise to find out more.
