Supporting school improvement priorities
Every morning thousands of children across Africa make a huge effort just to get to school. But for many this effort is a waste, because the schools they struggle so hard to reach just aren’t good enough.
School Development Projects help schools in rural Ethiopia, Ghana, Malawi, South Africa and Uganda to meet their priorities for improvement and provide the quality education that pupils deserve. Link's School Development Projects are inspired by the Millennium Development Goal themes of education, poverty, the environment and gender equality.

Solar Connect
This School Development Project was developed to address the need for better communications technology for rural schools, while taking account of the need to develop sustainable energy sources. Link provides solar-powered laptops with internet connection to schools in the hardest to reach areas where we work.
At the launch of Solar Connect in Malawi Stadwick Paliyani, Primary Education Advisor for Ntata Zone in Malawi, explained why Solar Connect is important: “Ntata zone is very hilly and remote. It has rough roads and bridges which are difficult to cross in the rainy season... Teachers will improve because they will have IT skills and they will move with the world. They will share ideas with each other and with people outside using the internet.” Read more about Solar Connect in Malawi.
