How we do it We work with teachers, principals, parents, and government education officials to improve the quality of education in Africa. Our core programs in Africa include:
School Performance Review: This is a highly effective system of school monitoring and support that we implement in schools across a district. We gather accurate school performance information and use it develop school improvement programs.
District Capacity Building: We build the capacity of districts to deliver better services to schools by training and mentoring district officers in school inspection methods, planning, and information technology.
Principal Training: We provide trainining programs to principals in areas such as leadership, school development planning, financial management and curriculum management.
Governance Training: We have developed a range of training materials and an innovative simulation game to develop the capacity of parents and other stakeholders to play an effective role in governing their schools.

HIV/AIDS Action Planning: We have developed a workshop that assists schools to develop a plan to meet the challenges posed by HIV/AIDS.
Health Advisory Committees: We assist schools in creating committees that enable parents and school leaders to address urgent HIV/AIDS issues in the community.
Orphan and Vulnerable Children Programs: We have designed a program that places careworkers in schools to identify and assist children who are orphans and vulnerable from HIV/AIDS.
HIV/AIDS Peer Education Programs: We have designed programs that encourage HIV/AIDS education and support through peer mentoring.
Learn more about our HIV/AIDS work Our Impact We have strong evidence that our work is making an effective and sustainable impact on education in Africa. The Netherlands Department of Foreign Affairs recently did an evaluation of education in Uganda that states:
"In Masindi (Uganda), the District Office, the Education Standards Agency and the NGO Link Community Development have worked since 2000 to improve district and school management... Examination results in these schools are approximately 50% higher than the results of comparable schools."
