Frequently Asked Questions
What Does Link Do?
Link Community Development International (Link) is an Edinburgh based charity that envisages a world where every child in sub-Saharan Africa has access to a quality basic education. In over 25 years, Link has helped nearly 2 million students in over 3,000 schools in Ethiopia, Ghana, Malawi, Rwanda and Uganda gain access to a better quality education. Link works directly with government staff, district education officers, communities and schools by providing support and training for more effective teaching, improved school management and increased community engagement.
Where Does Link Work?
Link Community Development International currently works in Ethiopia, Ghana, Malawi, Rwanda and Uganda. These individually registered organisations are supported by the main International head office based in Edinburgh, UK.
When was Link Established?
Link Community Development International (Link) was founded in 1989. Originally a student-led movement at the University of Cambridge, known as Link Africa, the organisation has developed to an unprecedented scale over the course of the next two decades. Find out more about our history by clicking here.
Why Does Link's Model Work?
The core of Link's approach is finding innovative ways to improve access to quality education which can be adapted within a country's existing structures - making our work truly sustainable.
Our programmes work directly with local and central governments, communities and schools. We provide support and training for more effective teaching and learning, improved school management and leadership, and increased community engagement. Collaborating at all levels of the education system, Link develops and tests our interventions to contribute to long-term systemic change and improved learning.
