Name: Alex Johnson

Current Occupation: Account Executive at AKA

Which fundraising event are you doing: The Virgin Money London Marathon 2014

Have you done any running events before? :
I have previously run 6 half marathons, including 3 last year. I have run the Great West Run twice! My races last year include the Richmond 13.1, Run To The Beat and the Ealing half-marathon, at which I recorded a new personal best time of 1:43:35. This will be my first full marathon!

Why fundraise for Link? :
I believe that the ‘teach a man how to fish’ approach is the most effective way of encouraging sustainable growth in the developing world. As necessary as emergency relief is, it is through improving not only education, but the educational institutions themselves that will ensure not only the futures of the current generation but that of the generations to come. This is something I passionately believe in, and think it is only right that every child has the right to a fully formed and fundamentally useful education.

What are you looking forward to most about the Marathon? :
Seeing Buckingham Palace in front of me and knowing I’m nearly at the end! It's just the challenge really, and knowing that it'll be a great atmosphere on the day.

What are you doing to fundraise? :
As well as using my online fundraising page, I have put together a humorous ‘Johnson vs Farah’ giving the impression that this year’s Marathon will be a race between the UK’s premier athletes… Mo Farah and myself! The premise will be that we’re both battling it out to win the Marathon and it’ll be a close-run thing – which should draw more attention to my fund-raising campaign and elevate it above the usual ‘please sponsor me’ campaign. I’ll even offer to double all donations if I beat Mo...

Thank you so so much to everyone who has sponsored me, you're an absolute legend. It'll be your donations, more than any amount of training that keeps me going to the end.
