Success for Link's first ever Sumo Run

Almost 150 people took part in Link's first running of Sumo Run, a 5km fun run through Battersea Park, London, on Sunday 28 July 2013.

On a sunny morning, participants came from all over the country to join in the inflatable fun, with plenty of amused spectators on hand to witness the entertainment too! Thanks to the combined efforts of all our sumos, we hope to raise a huge £25,000 for Link. Special congratulations go to our top fundraiser Shien Ming Tan, who raised an incredible £645.

Perhaps the most entertaining part of the day was the ‘mass inflation’ – where all 150 saggy-suited individuals gathered around the bandstand and slowly blew themselves up into fully-fledged sumo wrestlers. Flexibility was clearly not an issue as they proceeded to follow a warm-up routine of star jumps, fist-pumping and toe-touching.

To cap off the success, Sumo Run 2013 was heavily featured in the media with coverage on ITV, in the Daily Telegraph, the Independent and countless other places.

Fundraising Officer Jess Fok said: "Sumo Run 2013 has to be the highlight of my year! It was fantastic to see so many people having a good time and laughing so much that they wobbled. Thank you to every single participant that helped make the day a success and for all your efforts in fundraising for Link so far. We’re already looking forward next year!"
